Leyard and Planar had the distinct honor of being recognized by the Portland Business Journal as a “Manufacturer of the Year” at the Oregon Manufacturing Awards event on November 3.

The award recognizes makers and manufacturers who drive the local economy through innovation, excellence, growth and productivity. Leyard and Planar won in the 500+ employee category based on the company’s exemplary performance in company financials, overall business strategy, innovative internal operations, corporate training and manufacturing processes and sustainable practices. Rob Baumgartner, vice president of global operations, was on hand to receive the award and participate in a panel discussion with executives from other honored companies.

The award from the Portland Business Journal comes on the heels of the company’s announcement that it has expanded its presence in the United States by adding the assembly, configuration and testing of LED video wall products to their manufacturing facility in Hillsboro, Oregon. In doing so, Leyard and Planar have the unique ability to leverage core LED technology and supply chain as the worldwide leader in fine pitch LED while designing, engineering, manufacturing, servicing and marketing LED products in North America to meet the needs of western markets.

To support the elevated LED video wall production activities, the company has added 50 percent more capacity in its manufacturing department over the past 18 months and 35 percent more headcount to their U.S. customer service organization in the last year. Additionally, Leyard and Planar will expand their manufacturing facilities in Hillsboro in 2018.

Adam Schmidt, executive vice president of sales and marketing for North America, Leyard and Planar, had this to say about the expansion: “We are continuing to expand to ensure our solutions meet the strictest requirements for our U.S. customers. By shipping Leyard LED video walls from within the U.S., we’re shortening delivery times, lowering freight expenses and meeting the demands of American customers.”

The Portland Business Journal is not the only company taking notice of Leyard and Planar’s manufacturing leadership—for the second consecutive year, Futuresource Consulting ranked Leyard as the global market leader in narrow pixel pitch LED displays. The increased manufacturing presence will continue to position the company for market acceleration.
